The monetary assistance of Rs. 20,000 each has been provided by the Assam Government to more than 16 thousand students to buy laptops. The announcement was made at the function of Anundoram Borooah Award 2020 which was scheduled at Srimata Sankardev Kalashetra.

The assistance is being provided to the students who have secured 75 percent or more marks in the HSLC (High School Leaving Certificate) Exam 2020. The money was wired directly to the bank accounts of the recipients.

The function was attended by Himanta Biswa Sarma, the Education Minister and Sarbananda Sonowal, the Chief Minister among others. Mr. Sonowal also added, "The successful students in HSLC must consistently endeavour to achieve excellence in the future as well". He further added that the students/ youth of the state must benefit from the favourable environment for cultural, business and other interchanges formed by the Act East Policy.
