The Bihar Govt is launching a special programme, an English Literacy Programme, to improve the English competency of elementary school children. The teachers will also be trained under the prgramme.



The Additional Chief Secretary of Education Department Sanjay Kumar, "Although English teaching starts from Class 1 in schools, many children fail to have a clear understanding of the language". He added that this programme is being launched to help such students and boost their self-confidence.



To achieve this objective, the State Council of Educational Research and Training has signed a memorandum of understanding with a Mumbai-based organization Leap for Word.



The elementary school teachers will also undergo a virtual training programme on WhatsApp and YouTube to help children in improving their English knowledge. The technical assistance will be provided by the other agencies involved in the programme.



The English Literacy Programme has been specially designed to teach govt school educators the simple techniques that can be used to develop writing, reading, comprehension and sentence construction skills among children. After the completion of the programme, the trained educators will also be provided certificates.



The programme will start next month and will be implemented in a phased manner for the duration of 03 years.



The other states such as Madhya Pradesh, Jharkhand, and Rajasthan have already successfully implemented the English Literacy Programme.
