While hearing the plea filed against the Central Board of School Education to hold compartment exams, the Supreme Court said that it would be the colleges/ universities that would accept admissions for further studies so the CBSE would not be able to assist much regarding this.
The plea was filed claiming that it will be pernicious for the students to appear for the exam in the current pandemic situation.
Justice A M Khanwilkar, leading the bench comprising Sanjiv Khanna and Dinesh Maheshwari, told to the petitioner's advocate, "It is the college, universities and deemed universities which will be taking admissions of those students and the CBSE will not be able to help much the students taking compartment exams".
Vivek Tankha, the petitioners' advocate, said that the CBSE should ask the universities to wait till results get released of compartment exams or to allow provisional admissions since compartment exams are scheduled from 22 Sept to 29 Sept and it is possible that admissions into UG programs in various colleges would be over by the time the results are declared. He also added, "In the interest of students, who are almost five lakhs, taking compartment exams, something must be done".
The Bench stated that around 87000 students couldn't clear the exams and the solution does not rest on CBSE's shoulders. The court also posted the matter for hearing on next date i.e. 14 September and also advised the petitioners to present the copy of the plea to the Center.
