The Government Model Senior Secondary School, Dhanas, Chandigarh has established a 'Herbal Garden' in its campus to impart practical knowledge regarding agriculture and waste management to students.

Principal of Government Model Senior Secondary School (GMSSS) Seema Rani said, "In this herbal garden, the students learn the importance of cleanliness and greenery in their day to day life. They take the waste to compost in a pond specially made for composting and worming for plantation and agriculture". She further added that practical as well as theoretical knowledge is being provided to the students as PISA (Programme for International Student Assessment), an international students survey in 2022, is being presented by Chandigarh.

As New Education Policy 2020 has laid emphasis on critical and creative knowledge of the students, she emphasized this point and further mentioned that the education can not be restricted to the classroom's four walls.

Rani further added that the school has set up an example for other govt. and private schools and students from other schools also come to learn the greenery and waste management. The students also confirmed that these activities have sparked their interest in farming and they have learnt many things about plantation, cultivation, waste management and composting in the school.
