Madhya Pradesh Chief Minister Shivraj Singh Chouhan has announced a groundbreaking initiative to promote equitable access to medical education. Starting this year, the state government will implement a 5% reservation in medical studies exclusively for students who have attended government schools. This move aims to offer opportunities to students from economically disadvantaged backgrounds to pursue careers in medicine.

The Madhya Pradesh government is introducing a 5% reservation in medical studies for students who have completed their education in government schools. This reservation will ensure that a portion of seats in medical colleges is reserved exclusively for government school students.

Chouhan acknowledged that historically, students from private schools had a higher success rate in clearing the National Eligibility cum Entrance Test (NEET) for medical college admissions. With this reservation, two separate lists will be prepared: one for government school students and another for private school students.

In addition to the reservation announcement, Chouhan unveiled plans to construct a memorial in honor of tribal queen Durgawati. Its foundation stone will be laid on October 5.

The Chief Minister emphasized the importance of providing opportunities for children from less privileged backgrounds to excel in medical studies. The reservation aims to bridge the gap and ensure that students from government schools have an equal chance to become doctors.

The decision to provide reservations for government school students in medical studies reflects the government's commitment to promoting inclusivity and equal opportunities in education and healthcare. It is a significant step towards addressing disparities in access to medical education and healthcare professions, ensuring that students from government schools have an equal chance to pursue careers in medicine.
