The Council of Boards of Schools Education has approved the newly constituted DBSE (Delhi Board of School Education) examinations and certificates for equivalence with other recognised boards.

The DBSE will start its first academic session 2021-22 soon.

The Deputy Chief Minister of Delhi Manish Sisodia announced the information regarding the development. With the help of the collaboration with IB (International Baccalaureate) and approval from COBSE and AIU (Association of Indian Universities), the Delhi Board is prepared to transform learning assessment, added Sisodia.

The Council of Boards of Schools Education is an authority to verify and recognize the school education boards in India. The COBSE issued a letter in this regard stating, "On the grant of COBSE membership to DBSE, higher secondary and secondary exams conducted and certificates issued by it would have equivalence to the corresponding certificates of other member boards of COBSE".

The AIU (Association of Indian Universities), an inter-university organisation that represents Indian universities, has already granted the approval to DBSE granting it equivalence with CBSE and other recognised boards.

Earlier, the Delhi Govt approved the formation of DBSE to create a framework of continuous assessment instead of a rote learning-based exam system. At present, 30 schools are affiliated under the DBSE.

The Delhi govt, in the upcoming years, plans to affiliate all the Delhi govt schools with the DBSE. The govt will also provide the same option to the private schools as well.
