Delhi budget 2023-2024 was presented in the Assembly today by the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) government, following a bitter skirmish between the Centre and AAP government.
The Union Home Ministry granted its nod to the Delhi Budget yesterday after opposing allocations in various heads. The approval arrived after Delhi CM Arvind Kejriwal wrote to PM Narendra Modi asking him not to delay the Delhi budget 2023-24.
He said in the letter that this is the first in the last 75 years that a state's budget has been stalled. Why are you upset with Delhiites? Please don't stall Delhi's budget. With folded hands, Delhiites are requesting you to pass their budget.
Kailash Gahlot, Delhi's finance minister, offered a Rs 78,800-crore budget for the financial year 2023-2024. He said the budget is for a clean, beautiful, modern Delhi.
He further alleged that despite its enormous contribution, the Centre has been allotting just Rs 325 crore to Delhi as its share in central taxes.
Delhi budget 2023-24: Key announcements
- Constructing 26 flyovers, bridges, and underpasses.
- Open 100 Mahila Mohalla Clinics in 2023-24.
- Upgradation of 1,400-km PWD road network.
- Building 1,400 new modern bus shelters
- AAP government to link all colonies to the sewer network and improve the capacities of sewage treatment plants to clean Yamuna.
- Help MCD to remove three mountains of garbage in Delhi in two years. Okhla landfill is to be removed by December 2023, Ghazipur by December 2024, and Bhalswa by March 2024. MCD to get Rs 850 crore for flattening landfills.
- Local bodies will be provided financial help of Rs 8,241 crore in the financial year 2023-24.
- 350 Delhi government schools to get 20 computers each, and all principals, vice-principals, and teachers to get tablets.
- Construct three unique double-decker flyovers in partnership with DMRC.
- Electrification of 57 existing bus stations, the building of 9 new bus depots, 3 ISBTs, and two multi-level bus depots in Delhi.
- 6-point action strategy for a clean Yamuna.
- Mohalla Bus scheme for the last mile connectivity.
- 100 e-buses to be introduced in 2023-2024 and 2,180 in the next two years.
- 1,900 zero-emission electric buses to be installed by 2023. It will decrease Co2 emissions by 1.07 lakh tonnes
- Delhi will treat 890 million gallons of sewage per day by March 2024.
- 9 new hospitals are being constructed, 4 to be working this year. Hospital bed counts to grow from 14,000 to 30,000.
