On Saturday, Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal made a fresh appeal to Delhi Lieutenant Governor V K Saxena to permit teachers of city government-aided schools to visit Finland for a professional training programme. He requested in a tweet in Hindi, issued soon after Punjab CM Bhagwant Mann sent the first batch of 36 government school principals to Singapore for the professional training programme.
"The first batch of 36 government school principals have left today for the professional training programme in Singapore. This professional training programme is for the more promising future of the children of Punjab. I request that Lieutenant Governor allow Delhi teachers to go to Finland for training. Why do you hate teachers and children of Delhi?" asked Kejriwal on Twitter, whose Aam Aadmi Party is also in power in Punjab.
On January 12, Deputy Chief Minister Manish Sisodia alleged that the Lieutenant Governor had banned the school teachers from traveling to Finland for their training programme, adding a new flashpoint in the continued tussle between the Delhi Govt and Saxena.
Manish Sisodia, who also has the education portfolio, has claimed that the Aam Aadmi Party-led government had received the proposal for training and sent it to the Lieutenant Governor has "rejected" it saying the professional training can be done in the country itself.
The Kejriwal government has been seeking a yes from the Lieutenant Governor since then on the subject of the Finland trip of teachers. On Saturday, Punjab CM Mann said the AAP had, before last year's assembly votes, given a "guarantee" to people that the education system will be completely changed in Punjab. The government school principals will actively participate in the Singapore Professional Teacher Training seminar from February 6 to February 10, 2023.
