College teachers from 12 Delhi University threatened a complete shutdown of the university by hitting the streets stating that they have not received their salaries from the last 03-04 months.

Teachers from different colleges also reported not being paid regular salaries since the year 2019 and also reported that it became difficult for around 1200 teachers from these colleges to get along.

In this regard, the officials at the govt-funded colleges reported that they were unable to pay salaries to their staff because they didn't receive grants for the fourth quarter which was scheduled to be released in November last year whereas the spokesperson from the Delhi govt clarified that the govt has released all funds as per the rules.

These 12 colleges in DU are fully state-funded and have been at odds with the government of Delhi since 2019 over the delay in grants issue. Last year, the govt. had also reported financial irregularities in these colleges indicating scam and ghost appointments as revealed by a special audit.

Executive member of staff association at Bhim Rao Ambedkar College Sujit Kumar said that they have no other option but to hit the roads since they have no means to go to college and the pension amount is also not being released. He further added that they have written multiple letters to authorities including DUTA (Delhi University Teachers' Association) to resolve the issue but no response has been received.

The teachers, during the press conference, also pointed out that not just salaries, scholarships, medical bills, electricity and telephone bills are also unpaid. Deen Dayal Upadhyaya College officials have also been served notice to pay its pending property tax of Rs. 03 crore.

A senior official in SDMC (South Delhi Municipal Corporation) confirmed the news of issuing a notice to DDU College. Similar situation continues in other 11 colleges where the staff has not been paid since December last year.

The 12 colleges which are fully funded by the Delhi government and affiliated with the Delhi University are Shaheed Rajguru College for Applied Sciences for Women, Keshav Mahavidyalaya, Acharya Narendra Dev College, Maharaja Agrasen College, Dr. Bhim Rao Ambedkar College, Bhagini Nivedita College, Bhaskaracharya College of Applied Sciences, Deen Dayal Upadhyaya College, Indira Gandhi Institute of Physical Education & Sports Sciences, Aditi Mahavidyalaya Women's College, Maharishi Valmiki College of Education and Shaheed Sukhdev College of Business Studies.
