Education Budget 2023-24: Job Creation Among Top 7 Priorities

Union Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman has presented the Budget 2023-24 today. Among the top 7 priorities announced by the Minister, Job Creation has also been added to improve the job employment scene across the nation. This Budget focuses on educational and research programmes. The highlights are mentioned below:





  • For Health Education and Skilling: 157 Nursing colleges to be established in core locations.




  • New program for Pharma research will be taken up.




  • Dedicated multidisciplinary medical courses will be introduced.




  • National Digital Library for Children and Adolescents: States will be encouraged to establish and provide infrastructure. National Book Trust and Children Book Trust to overcome the education loss. Financial literacy will be inculcated by financial institutions.




  • EKLAVYA Modela Schools: Centre to recruit 38,800 school teachers and support staff to service lakhs of tribal students.




  • Integrated Online Training Program: To upgrade the skills and people approach of govt staff, training will be provided.




  • Centre of Excellence for Artificial Intelligence will be established in the top institutions.




  • 100 Labs to develop applications to use 5G services will be set up in engineering institutions.




  • Lab Grown Diamonds: R&D grant will be provided for LGD to one of the IITs.




  • PMKVY 4.0: The scheme will provide skills to lakhs of students within the year. It will also cover new-age courses such as AI, Coding, etc. 30 Skill India International Centres will also be set up.




  • To provide stipend support to 47 lakh youths, National Apprenticeship Scheme will be ruled out through the Direct Benefit Transfer scheme.





The Centre has allocated Rs 1,12,899.47 lakh crore for education. This raises the projected expenditure on school and higher education by approx 8.3% as compared to funds allocated in 2022-23.



The Department of School Education and Literacy has been allocated a total of 68,804.85 crores in FY2023-24 which has been increased by 16.51% as compared to FY 2022-23. Whereas the HE Department has been allocated a total of Rs. 44,094.62 crores (an 8% increase).
