Dharmendra Pradhan, Union Education Minister has launched the Phase-II of Mahatma Gandhi National Fellowship programme. The Fellowship programme is for the duration of 02 years and has been launched to create and enhance the opportunity and skills of youths at the grass-root level.

Through the Fellowship, the classroom sessions will be combined with the academic partner IIMs to provide on-field experience at the district level to develop plans; to recognize barriers in economic output, raising employment, and promote livelihoods in rural regions.

Education Minister urged the Indian Institutes of Management, academic partner, and District Collectors to facilitate the fellows and depict a story through this programme.

The Minister also encouraged to work with local approach and global thinking including the integration of the local language in skill development efforts.

He, while talking about the NEP 2020, highlighted the vision to create a strong confluence between skills and education. He also requested academic partner IIMs to spread awareness about the NEP 2020.

In 2018, the Ministry of Skill Development and Entrepreneurship launched SANKALP (Skill Acquisition and Knowledge Awareness for Livelihood Promotion) to strengthen the skill training delivery practices across the nation. SANKALP is a World Bank assisted programme.

The Mahatma Gandhi National Fellowship programme has been launched for young women and men belonging to 21 years to 30 years age group and who already possess some professional/ academic experience to provide catalytic assistance to District Administration to enhance their skill development delivery.
