On Monday, the ministry of education told Lok Sabha that there are 14,145 teaching and non-teaching posts lying vacant in Kendriya Vidyalayas (KVs) across the nation.

There are 1,249 Kendriya Vidyalayas (KVs) in the country.

The ministry said in a written reply that, as of November 1, 2022, 12,723 teaching and 1,422 non-teaching posts were lying empty in Kendriya Vidyalayas (KVs) across the country. The vacancies occur due to retirement, transfer, etc., from time to time.

The ministry said that filling these vacant posts is a continuous process, and efforts are made to fill the vacancies as per the requirements of the relevant recruitment rules. Teachers are also engaged on contractual grounds for a temporary duration by Kendriya Vidyalaya Sangathan to confirm that the teaching-learning process is not hindered.

In November end, 2022, Kendriya Vidyalaya Sangathan (KVs) instructed all schools to mandatorily engage exceptional educators on a contract basis after the Delhi High Court mandated the Kendriya Vidyalayas (KVs) to hire instructors for permanent posts.

As per the data shared by the ministry, the most increased number of 14 new Kendriya Vidyalayas (KVs) was set up in Madhya Pradesh in the last five years, followed by Uttar Pradesh, Odisha, Rajasthan, and Chattisgarh. 113 new Kendriya Vidyalayas were set up in the previous five years, the highest during the 2017-2018 academic year. No new Kendriya Vidyalaya school was established in Mizoram between 2017 to 2022 academic years.
