Education Ministry to Organise 4th G20 Education Working Group Meeting from 19 June
A two-day National Conference on Foundation Literacy and Numeracy will also be conducted between 17 June and 18 June at Savitribai Phule University, Pune, as a run-up to the main event. The conference aims to recognize and examine the best approaches states are adopting in building an environment that promotes foundational literacy and numeracy in youthful learners.

The Ministry of Education is prepared to organise the fourth and final Education Working Group (EDWG) meeting in Pune, Maharashtra, from 19 to 21 June 2023. The fourth and final G20 meeting will emphasize the theme- Of Ensuring Foundation Literacy and Numeracy, particularly in the context of integrated learning, and culminate with the Education Ministerial meeting on 22 June.
A two-day National Conference on Foundation Literacy and Numeracy will also be conducted between 17 June and 18 June at Savitribai Phule University, Pune, as a run-up to the main event. The conference aims to recognize and examine the best approaches states are adopting in building an environment that promotes foundational literacy and numeracy in youthful learners.
On 12 June, Secretary of the Department of School Education and Literacy Sanjay Kumar said that the conference aims to reflect on two essential themes: teaching-learning methods and pedagogy for FLN in the context of multilingualism and capacity building and teacher training in blended mode.
Professionals from diverse fields have been invited to share their experiences and learning with the audience to determine the extent of joint initiatives, cross-learning, and challenges in the enactment. Kumar added that representatives from the education departments of all states and Union Territories in India, knowledge associates of the Government of India (UNESCO & UNICEF), and civil society agencies would participate in this event.
Secretary of Higher Education, K Sanjay Murthy, said that like the last G20 meetings, a seminar and EdWG Meeting would be there based on the focus area of Foundational Literacy and Numeracy. He additionally reported that at the moment, nations such as Indonesia, Spain, Saudi Arabia, Australia, USA, UAE, China, and the UK have all expressed their curiosity about the topic of the conference and will participate as panelists.
He described that as a forerunner to the G20 EdWG meeting, the Department of Higher Education is arranging a seminar in partnership with ELSEVIER on 16 June at IISER, Pune. The seminar will focus on the theme- Accessible Science: Fostering Collaboration. This occasion will convene stakeholders across the scientific society to discuss the most promising approaches for accessible Science, how accessible Science can be applied across respective nations with varying regional capacities, and ways to use scientific techniques to support global progress, he added.
