The Ministry of Education has informed that the Govt is committed to empower the higher educational institutions across the country to attain global standards.

In this framework, the Govt launched the World Class Institutions Scheme in 2017 to facilitate 10 institutions each from the private and public category to equip world-class academic and research facilities. Under the scheme, these institutions were also granted the 'Institution of Eminence' status, as informed the Ministry officials.

Till date, 12 institutions have been approved under the scheme, out of which 08 are public and 04 private.

Under the regulatory framework, a significant autonomy in academic, financial and administrative matters has been provided to the approved institutions so that they can develop as global educational institutions.

The Government is also providing financial assistance of Rs. 1000 Crore each to public Institutions of Eminence for the duration of 05 years.

The scheme intends for the selected institutions to feature among the top 500 of the global institutions within the duration of 10 years after being selection as IoE.

Dharmendra Pradhan, Union Minister of Education, provided this information in a written reply in the Rajya Sabha.
