Govt to Launch 589 Vocational Schools to Offer 13 New Skills
The 589 new schools aim at developing professional knowledge and opportunities towards vocational skills among students. Education Minister Jitu Vaghani announced that the 13 vocational categories include apparel, home furnishings, beauty and wellness, food processing, plumber, sports, etc.

On August 2, 2022, The Gujarat Education Department announced 589 new government and grant-in-aid secondary and higher secondary vocational schools. The schools will provide 13 new vocational skills to students. According to the reports, the schools will commence admissions in September-October this year.



The 589 new schools aim at developing professional knowledge among students. These new schools, majorly in Gujarati medium, have also been approved under the National Education Policy (NEP) 2020 by the Government of India Samagra Shiksha.



The schools also offer to provide opportunities for vocational skills as well. Education Minister Jitu Vaghani announced that the 13 vocational categories include apparel, home furnishings, beauty and wellness, food processing, plumber, sports, fitness and leisure, health care, made-ups, automotive, tourism, and hospitality, IT/ITES, physical education, and electronics.



These new schools have approved an intake of a minimum of 40 students in each vocational trade. The new two-year pattern was introduced under NEP 2020, changing the current four-year way (from 9th standard to 12th). These new schools have been sanctioned across all 33 districts and corporations.





Officials informed that subsequent counseling of teachers at present counseling of parents and students is in progress, explaining to them the benefits of vocational skills. An education official stated that once counseling and training are complete, these schools will start taking admissions, likely in September. The textbooks, training modules, and curriculum for these schools have been prepared by Pandit Sunderlal Sharma, Institue of Vocational Education, Bhopal.
