The Ministry of Education has prepared SOPs (Standard of Procedures) for states on the reopening of schools given the corona situation. The SOPs are on health, safety, and cleanliness while the focus has also been shifted to learning and teaching environment keeping in mind the social distancing norms.



"I hope the states will follow the SOPs. No student will be forced to come to school," said Dr. Ramesh Pokhriyal, Union Education Minister.



As per the released guidelines, the schools must be rigorously cleaned and sanitised before opening to students. Disinfection and hand washing has to be mandatory. The extra precaution must be taken at the entry/ exit gates as well as on transporting facilities and for students who are residing in hostels.



To maintain the social-distance, the 06-feet gap must be followed at all times. As per the SOPs, wearing masks is absolutely mandatory in all areas including classes, sports, and laboratories.



The written consent from parents is still necessary for students who wish to appear for classes. The SOPs have provided relaxation in attendance and have also given the option to continue study via online mode. The special precautions has also been mentioned for the preparation and serving midday meals.



Schools have been advised to continue education as per the alternative academic calendar provided by NCERT and are not allowed for immediate evaluation until 02 to 03 weeks. Keeping in mind the corona situation, the guidelines related to the mental health of the students have also been added.



A checklist, based on UNICEF's guidelines, has also been introduced in the SOPs to prevent the spread of COVID-19 and to ensure a safe environment.
