Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan has informed that a Kerela Higher Education Curriculum Framework will be finalised before March 2023 to reform curriculum in higher educational institutions.

During the inauguration of a two-day colloquium on higher education reforms on Tuesday, Mr. Vijayan encouraged universities to work towards reforming their curriculum and syllabus in line with the proposed framework.

The framework draft, which will be developed by academic professionals, must be prepared by March next and distributed for extensive discussions. Besides including a broad spectrum of disciplines, it must uphold the State's precious ideals, including gender justice, equality, freedom of expression, etc.

The Chief Minister stated that the framework should also have room for flexibility in courses/programmes. Students should have the opportunity to complete a portion of their studies abroad while allowing international students to study in institutions in the State.

Higher educational institutions should be fully equipped to introduce project-mode courses in emerging areas that could be included or substituted with another after a period of five years. Three courses of these types will be launched in seven universities in the initial phase.

Mr. Vijayan also encouraged academics to explore the possibility of introducing four-year undergraduate courses- that were widespread in institutions abroad.

While referring to the confrontation with Governor Arif Mohammed Khan, Chief Minister said the government cannot be cowed down into abandoning its resolve to rebuild the higher education sector in a time-bound manner.
