Professor Bushra Ateeq, assistant professor in BSBE (Biological Sciences and Bioengineering) department at IIT, Kanpur, has been awarded the esteem Shanti Swarup Bhatnagar Prize for S&T (Science & Technology), 2020. The award has been awarded to Dr. Ateeq in Medical Sciences category for her cancer research.



Professor Abhay Karandikar, Director of IIT Kanpur, congratulated Prof. Ateeq and said, " It gives great pleasure to IIT-K that Dr. Bushra Ateeq has been chosen for the prestigious Shanti Swarup Bhatnagar Prize for Science & Technology 2020 in the category of Medical Sciences. You have made us proud".



The prestigious award is named after the Founder-Director of the CSIR (Council of Scientific & Industrial Research), India, the late Dr. Shanti Swarup Bhatnagar and is awarded each year to the contestants for their exceptional contribution in the S&T stream.



The announcement for the award was made on the foundation day of the CSIR (Council of Scientific & Industrial Research) i.e. September 26. Her research focused on understanding the compounded molecular events involved in breast and prostate cancer progression to identify the initial diagnostic markers and immoderate therapeutic targets.



"I am extremely thankful to IIT, Kanpur for the supportive environment," said Dr. Bushra as she felt honoured and humbled.



In 2018, Dr. Bushra was also awarded the CNR Rao Faculty Awards 2018 for her project in establishing the specific microRNAs role to regulate the SPINK1 levels.
