Ind-SAT, the first-ever test for the students who wish to apply for scholarships to study in India was conducted on 22 July under the programme 'Study in India'. The test was regulated by the National Testing Agency and was proctored online. The estimated number of students was around 5000 who took part in the exam belonging to Nepal, Bangladesh, Sri-Lanka, Bhutan, Indonesia, Mauritius, Tanzania, Uganda, Zambia, Rwanda, and Kenya countries.

This exam was held on a pilot-basis around 12 countries and there are plans in motion to extend it to other countries.

This test acts as an eligibility criterion for the foreign students who wish to continue their undergraduate and postgraduate studies in selected Indian universities to grant them the scholarships and admissions under the 'Study in India' programme.

As per the official statement, "The test was conducted by the Ministry of HRD and EdCIL Limited oversaw all the registration and exam related aspects." The information regarding the same had also been given by the Finance Minister in his budget speech this year.

The selection of the students is done on the basis of their merit in class 12 or school-leaving exam.
