The World Bank, Indian Government and Government of Nagaland signed a project worth $68 million to enhance the school's governance across Nagaland and also to improve learning environment and teaching practices in selected schools.
The 'Nagaland Enhancing Classroom Teaching and Resources Project' will upgrade class instruction, generate opportunities for the professional development of teachers and build technology system to provide teachers and students with more access to online learning ans will allow better monitoring of programs and policies, said Finance Minister.
Around 20,000 teachers and 150,000 students in the Nagaland's govt. education system will benefit from the statewide reforms.
C S Mohapatra, Additional Secretary of Department of Economic Affairs, Ministry of Finance, said, "The education project in Nagaland will address the critical gaps faced by students and teachers and play an important role in the development of the state".
This integrated approach will help in mitigating the COVID-19 challenges and will also complement the traditional delivery models.
Currently, Nagaland is facing issues of weak school infrastructure, lack of opportunities for the teachers' professional development and communities' limited capacities to partner with the school system effectively. These issues have been accentuated by the pandemic causing additional disruption and stress to the school education system of the state.
World Bank Coutry Director of India Junaid Ahmed also informed that the project is designed in such a way that it will support the proceeding efforts of the Govt. of Nagaland to improve and develop a flexible education system in the state.
