According to a media report from the UK released on Saturday, India is one of the source nations for expert and qualified mathematics and science teachers being tempted with international relocation payments of GBP 10,000 as part of an overseas drive to fill vacant classrooms positions in England.
As per The Times newspaper, hundreds of maths, science, and language teachers will be invited to the United Kingdom from nations such as India and Nigeria this year to develop recruitment schemes for other countries and subjects. (IRP)- The International Relocation Payments, being executed as a pilot in the academic session 2023-24, applies to overseas teachers with a job offer in the United Kingdom and covers their visa expenses, immigration healthiness tax, and other relocation expenditures.
The report said UK officials anticipate between 300 and 400 teachers to obtain the IRPs in the coming academic session. And if it demonstrates success in attracting overseas staff, the scheme could be expanded to other subjects. To increase the number of teachers, the UK government has initiated an overseas recruitment initiative under which teachers of mathematics, science, and language-teaching capabilities from India, South Africa, Singapore, Jamaica, Zimbabwe, Ghana, and Nigeria, are being recognised.
Eligibility criteria:
- Eligible educators must have a degree qualification
- recognised teacher-training qualifications
- experience of at least one year
- English speaking fluency at the undergraduate level
Such experts are suitable for visas in order to work in Britain if they have a job offer and make a minimum salary that relies on their position, usually near GBP 27,000 per year.
In a statement, the Department for Education (DfE) said In March, we introduced a one-year trial offering no more than 400 of the finest teachers from across the globe the chance to teach in our schools. This option is one of many options we are exploring to confirm there is an outstanding teacher for every child.
The action comes when there is a raging controversy over the UK’s record net migration formations released a week before, which British Prime Minister Rishi Sunak acknowledged were “too high”. Home Secretary Suella Braverman has arranged plans for a clampdown on family dependants on student visas being restricted only to Ph.D. level teachers.
