The Rajya Sabha has passed the Institute of Teaching and Research in Ayurveda Bill 2020 which was passed by Lok Sabha on March 19, 2020.

This prepared the way to organize a state-of-the-art Ayurvedic institution named ITRA (Institute of Teaching and Research in Ayurveda) at Gujarat and to bestow the status of INI (Institution of National Importance) to it making the first institution with such status in the AYUSH sector.

The Institute of Teaching and Research in Ayurveda is attempted to be organized by combining the currently existing institutes of Ayurveda at Gujarat Ayurved University campus like the Institute for Post Graduate Teaching and Research in Ayurveda, Shree GulabKunevrba Ayurveda Mahavidyalaya, Institute of Ayurvedic Pharmaceutical Sciences etc. are some of the reputed institutions among the list.
