In the ' Grading/ Scoring of Performance of Central Universities' released by the Ministry of Education, Jamia Millia Islamia has captured the top rank out of all central universities with 90% score. The universities are evaluated on the basis of the framework set under an MoU of 2019-20.

The Rajiv Gandhi University of Arunachal Pradesh has scored 83% whereas Jawaharlal Nehru University scored 82%. The score of Aligarh Muslim University is 78%.

For constant assessment, a Memorandum of Understanding was required to sign with the HRD Ministry and UGC and in 2017, JMI became the first university to agree to this MoU and signed it.

The framework for the assessment includes students' annual intake in Undergraduate, Postgraduate, M.Phil, and Ph.D. programs and student heterogeneity in these programs such as female students, students from other states or abroad. The faculty quality, visiting faculty, student-teacher ratio, placement quality, no. of students to clear top exams like JEE, NEET etc. are some of the other parameters for assessment.

As per the released statement, Jamia didn't just top in the aforementioned parameters but also performed excellently on co-curricular and extracurricular ventures, in National and International rankings like NAAC, NIRF etc., and in finance and governance.

From the past few months, JMI has been through so many ups and downs and this achievement has firmly been a huge sigh of relief. As per the Vice-Chancellor Nazma Akhtar, 'the high-quality teaching, relevant and focused research of the highest quality and improved perception of the university' has contributed in the accomplishment.
