An organization representing Kuki students has taken a significant step, urgently reaching out to the University Grants Commission (UGC) with a crucial request. They are appealing to relocate postgraduate and Ph.D. scholars from Manipur University and Dhanamanjuri University to other central universities across India.
The state has been grappling with sporadic violence since May 3, which has led to a disturbing atmosphere, endangering the safety and well-being of students pursuing higher education. In this dire context, the organization is emphasizing the utmost importance of transferring these displaced scholars to other universities of their choice. Such a move would ensure the continuity of their education and safeguard their future from being permanently derailed by the prevailing unrest.
With Manipur University deemed unsafe, returning to their academic institutions is no longer feasible for these scholars. Hence, the students' body urges the UGC to proactively explore alternative avenues, where these promising scholars can find a nurturing academic environment in other central universities across the country.
The ethnic clashes between the majority Meitei community and the tribal Kukis have caused immense loss and pain, with over 160 lives lost to the violence. In the aftermath of these tragic events, the organization is also requesting the UGC to issue original education certificates to the victims who have suffered the loss of their documents due to incidents of arson.
In the face of unforeseen and unfortunate circumstances, the students' organization appeals for empathy and support, urging the UGC to take swift and compassionate action to mitigate the adverse effects and provide a glimmer of hope for these affected scholars.
