On Monday, Meghalaya Chief Minister Conrad K Sangma inaugurated first government engineering college in Shillong.
The project was undertaken by (RUSA)- Rashtriya Uchchatar Shiksha Abhiyan and built at the cost of Rs 26 crore and constructed in the Mawlai area.
The chief minister said the focus of his government had been the youth for the last five years, and with that in mind, the government has initiated the programmes.
He said the government has studied and interacted with more than 90,000 youths and developed a road map to channelise their potential. He informed that different programmes connected to entrepreneurship, sports, and music that are being launched by the government have been drawn from such studies.
The chief minister said youth is an asset and power we have. If we correctly use their energy, we can make sure that Meghalaya can be the best state in the nation, as the youth will play a significant role in driving the future of our state
He said that if we intend to upscale learning in the 20s, we will not be able to get the best. Hence, the government has started programmes that guarantee the proper nutrition of a child and early education in an organized manner. The chief minister said the government would continue to focus on human capital growth as an investment for Meghalaya’s development.
The engineering college will cater to the degree programme of three technical branches – civil engineering, mining engineering, and electrical engineering, with an intake capacity of 30 for each unit/branch.
The government has formed 55 posts, which include 36 teaching & 19 non-teaching posts.
