The National Council for Teacher Education (NCTE) has recently introduced the Integrated Teacher Education Programme (ITEP) in 57 Teacher Education Institutions (TEIs) for the academic session 2023-2024 throughout the nation. The National Testing Agency (NTA) will conduct the admission via the National Common Entrance Test (NCET).
Integrated Teacher Education is a flagship programme of NCTE under the National Education Policy (NEP 2020). The programme is a four-year dual-major holistic undergraduate degree delivering BA BEd, BSc BEd, and BCom BEd. This course will train teachers for the four stages of the new school structure: foundational, preparatory, middle, and secondary (5+3+3+4). ITEP is being offered in pilot mode initially in reputed central and state government universities or institutions.
ITEP will be open for all students who prefer to teach as a profession after secondary. This course will help students since they will save one year by finishing the programme in four years rather than the standard five years needed by the present BEd plan.
ITEP will impart cutting-edge pedagogy and establish a foundation in early childhood care and education (ECCE), inclusive education, foundational literacy and numeracy (FLN), and an understanding of India and its values, traditions, ethos, and art, among others.
The course will contribute substantially to revitalizing the whole teacher education sector. The teachers passing out of this programme via a multi-disciplinary environment, grounded in Indian values and traditions will be infused with the requirements of 21st-century global standards and, hence, will shape the future of New India.
