National Council for Teacher Education has taken the decision to extend the conduction of the TET (Teacher Eligibility Test) & CTET (Central Teacher Eligibility Test) to all the School Education levels from Preparatory class to Class 12 under the NEP (New Education Policy) 2020. The NCTE has also constituted a committee regarding this to develop Guidelines and Test Structure to extend the TET and CTET exams.
As per the letter issued by the Union Ministry of Education, a committee will be constituted under Task No.145 who will be analyzing the data regarding the conduction of TET by States/ UTs & CTET by CBSE, Candidate-wise and Question-wise data for psychometric analysis, implementation of NCTE issued TET guidelines, and issues faced by the organizations and agencies while conducting the TET and CTET exam.
The committee, after a thorough study, will be submitting its guidelines and recommendations before March 31, 2021.
The NCTE, in its letter addressed to States and UTs, states that the New Education Policy 2020 sanctions several changes in the Indian educations sector. The NEP 2020 also aims to ensure that the students are being taught by passionate, professionally trained, and highly qualified teachers well-equipped with modern standards.
The CBSE, State Governments, and UTs have also been directed to provide statistics and information regarding the TET and CTET exams through email to acad@ncte-india.org.
At present, the CTET, conducted by CBSE, and TET, conducted by respective States and UTs, are attempted by candidates who wish to join the teaching profession to teach students from Class 01 to Class 08. The exams are held in two sessions: Paper 1 is for candidates who wish to teach from Class 01 to Class 05 whereas Paper 2 is to teach students from Class 06 to Class 08.
