The Union Cabinet has approved the New Education Policy 2020 which aims at rebuilding the education system of the country. As per the policy, the HRD Ministry has been renamed as the Education Ministry.

The introduction to the policy will be made by the Prakash Javdekar, Union Minister for Information and Broadcasting and Dr. Ramesh Pokhriyal, Union HRD Minister.

As per the reports, the new policy will be introduced before the start of the new academic term which begins from Sept-Oct. The delay in the academic term this year has been caused by the corona pandemic.

The draft for the new policy was prepared by the team of experts under the leading command of former ISRO chief K Kasturirangan and was handed over to Dr. Pokhriyal last year when he took charge.

Some concerns were raised, when the draft was made public for feedback, regarding the imposition of Hindi but the issue has been addressed as reported by the HRD officials.

The aim of the new policy is the constancy of education, universal access to education, improvement in the quality of elementary education, etc. The digitization of education at schools and colleges has also been discussed.
