Bedangadas Mohanty, an acclaimed physicist and a professor at NISER (National Institute of Science Education and Research), Bhubaneswar, has been selected as a fellow of the American Physical Society for 2020. He is also a member of the LHC (Large Hadron Collider) experiment in CERN (European Organization for Nuclear Research).

He was awarded the honour for his research for the QCD Critical Point in High Energy Nuclear Collisions at both the LHC and the Relativistic Heavy Ion Collider and also for his renowned contribution to the Quantum Chromodynamics Phase Diagram study. Considered among the 10 best in the 2011 year, he also participated in the foundation of Quark-Hadron Transition.

His STAR experiment which has ushered to the prospect of the existence of the critical point in the QCD's phase diagram is regarded as the landmark in the stream. He has also made a remarkable contribution to the discovery of QGP (Quark Gluon Plasma) in the laboratory which allows the study of transport properties such as thermal conductivity, viscosity, and diffusion co-efficient of QCD matter.

He has already been awarded the 'India-Shanti Swarup Bhatnagar Award 2015' i.e. the highest award in Science in India and has also been the recipient of the JC Bose Fellow in the 2016 year.
