This opportunity is specifically extended to colleges and institutions previously ineligible due to stringent criteria, requiring 100 MBBS seats for every 10 lakh population. Today, November 17, 2023, the National Medical Commission (NMC) has reopened applications for establishing new medical institutes and expanding MBBS seats, signaling a significant departure from previous regulations that limited medical seats per state. Stakeholders interested in initiating new medical colleges or augmenting MBBS seats can now apply through the official website- nmc.org.in, until November 26, 2023.

This opportunity is specifically extended to colleges and institutions previously ineligible due to stringent criteria, requiring 100 MBBS seats for every 10 lakh population. Now, institutions meeting revised criteria have an extended application window, provided they comply with additional conditions outlined by the commission.

The NMC's Undergraduate Medical Education Board meticulously reevaluated the stipulation mandating 100 MBBS seats per 10 lakh population within states.

Consequently, a decision was made to implement this clause, as detailed in the "Guidelines for Undergraduate Courses under Establishment of New Medical Institutions, Starting of New Medical Courses, Increase of Seats for Existing Courses, and Assessment and Rating Regulations, 2023" (notified by UGMEB on August 16, 2023).

This revision prompted the reopening of the NMC portal, facilitating new medical college establishments and increasing MBBS seats in existing medical institutions.
