The announcement for Nobel Prize 2022 commenced on 3rd October 2022 and continued till 10th October 2022. The Nobel Prizes are granted every year in the month of October, and the winners receive prize money of 10,00,000 Swedish Krona. The first Nobel Prize award ceremony was carried out in 1901. Since then, it has been awarded 609 times to 975 organisations and individuals.

2022 Nobel Laureates

Physiology and Medicine: Professor Svante Pääbo

Professor Pääbo got Nobel Prize in Physiology and Medicine 2022 for discovering the genetic identity of two of humankind’s earliest ancestors and opening a new gateway to the human evolution procedure.



Literature: Annie Ernaux

Annie Ernaux won Nobel Prize in Literature 2022 for her courage and clinical insight with which she uncovers the roots, estrangements, and joint restraints of personal memory. She wrote over twenty books, which have been school textbooks in France for decades. The books written by her deliver one of the most modest, insightful windows into modern France's social life. She is the pioneer of France's autofiction genre, which presents the narrative form to real-life experience.



Peace: Ales Bialiatski, Memorial group of Russia, Centre for Civil Liberties

Ales Bialiatski won Nobel Peace Prize 2022 for facilitating the right to condemn power and protect the fundamental rights of citizens. He was first jailed in 2011 for evading taxes and is still in jail since 2021 due to mass public protests in Minsk.



Memorial group of Russia and the Organisation centre for Civil Liberties won the Nobel Peace Prize 2022 for displaying outstanding efforts to document human rights abuses, war crimes, and the abuse of power.



Memorial group of Russia- founded by human rights activists in the former Soviet Union, was responsible for recording atrocities committed during the communist regime. After the collapse of the Soviet Union, the Memorial grew to become the most extensive Russian human rights organisation.



Centre for Civil Liberties, Ukraine- founded in Kyiv in 2007. The Ukrainian rights organisation aims to advance human rights and democracy in Ukraine.



Physics: Alain Aspect, John Clauser, Anton Zeilinger

Alain Aspect, John Clauser, and Anton Zeilinger won Nobel Prize in Physics 2022 for carrying out experiments in quantum mechanics that laid the groundwork for rapidly developing new applications in computing & cryptography.



Chemistry: Carolyn Bertozzi, Morten Meldal, Barry Sharpless

Carolyn Bertozzi, Morten Meldal, and Barry Sharpless won Nobel Prize in Chemistry 2022 for developing click chemistry & bio-orthogonal chemistry.



Economics: Ben S. Bernanke, Douglas W. Diamond, Philip H. Dybvig

Ben S. Bernanke, Douglas W. Diamond, and Philip H. Dybvig won Nobel Prize in Economics 2022 for their research on banking & financial crises. The three Nobel laureates have enhanced the understanding of the role of banks in the economic sector, especially during financial crises. And a critical discovery in their research is why bypassing bank collapses is vital.



Douglas W. Diamond and Philip H. Dybvig developed theoretical models that explained why banks exist, how their position in society makes them vulnerable to rumors regarding their upcoming collapse, and how humankind can decrease this vulnerability.



Ben S. Bernanke analysed the worst economic crisis in modern history- the Great Depression of the 1930s. By using historical sources & statistical methods, his analysis displayed the essential elements of the drop in gross domestic product.



Nobel Prize Winners Categories

When Alfred Nobel announced Nobel Prize, he categorised it into five categories in his will. Later, in Alfred Nobel’s memory, the sixth category- Economics was added. Now, the following organisations award the six classifications of Nobel Prizes:




  1. Nobel Prize in Literature, rewarded by the Swedish Academy

  2. Nobel Prize in Peace, granted by the Norwegian Nobel Committee

  3. Nobel Prize in Chemistry, rewarded by the Royal Swedish Academy of Sciences

  4. Nobel Prize in Physics, rewarded by the Royal Swedish Academy of Sciences

  5. Nobel Prize in Physiology and Medicine, awarded by the Karolinska Institute

  6. Nobel Prize in Economics, granted by the Sveriges Riksbank, Bank of Sweden
