In Tripura, classes are being held under shades of the tree or in open for the students who do not have access to digital means for online education. During the time of the pandemic when everyone is fighting the COVID battle, students are the most vulnerable section and this kind of initiative will surely help the underprivileged section.

Earlier these types of classes were being held in Shantiniketan, West Bengal but the Education Department of Tripura too has taken this step to reach the students who do not have access to online education.

As per the recent survey of the Education Department, there are 94,013 students who can not afford mobile phones and 1,42,238 students who do not have cable t.v. network for online education.

These open-air schools are being attended by 27,000 teachers employed at 4400 schools. The Education Department has also started the 'Neighbourhood Classes' to overcome this situation with 1:5 teacher-student ratio.

Ratan Lal Nath, Education Minister, said, "All the students have to wear face masks and use hand sanitizer during the classes. We have asked the teachers not to force any parents who are not interested to send their children to neighbourhood classes".

Initially, the State Education Department launched the video lectures on local t.v. network, online classes, helpline numbers to help the students during the corona lockdown and syllabus has also been deducted.
