The IDRBT (Institute for Development and Research in Banking Technology) has appointed Professor D Janakiram as the new director of the institute. Prior to joining IDRBT, Prof Janakiram was a senior professor at IIT Madras in the Department of Computer Science and Engineering. He was also a visiting professor at the RIT (Rochester Institute of Technology) in the US.

Prof Janakiram is a PhD from IIT Delhi and has also been awarded the Boyscast Fellowship in 1997 and the IBM Faculty Award in 2007. He has also been the recipient of the Yahoo Faculty Grant in 2009. His current research focuses, along with blockchain technologies and cloud computing, on building huge big scale distributed systems and challenges in the big data processing.

Prof. Janakiram has also authored more than 150 research papers and is the editor of 06 books. He has also set 02 companies in the cloud computing space and has also directed many national-level important research projects. He was also the principal investigator for other projects including Peer-to-Peer Concept Search (Indo-Italian Collaborative Project); MobiTel - Mobile Telemedicine for Rural India (Indo-German Project); Service-Oriented Architecture for Linux Kernel (DIT); Cloud Bursting Architecture for Document Workflow).
