The Madras High Court has directed the centre to form a committee to provide OBC reservations in AIQ (All India Quota) medical seats. The provided quota will apply to non-central institutions from the next year. As per the Madras HC, there is no legal or Constitutional bar against the reservations of OBC quota.

"When the MCI does not oppose the reservations in central institutions, it can not oppose it in non-central institutions as well," was the statement of the Madras HC.

The plea was filed against the central govt.'s decision to not subventing the 50 percent quota to medical seats to OBC category for Dental, UG, and PG programs for the academic year 2020-21.
