Vijay Inder Singla, Punjab School Education Minister, informed that the state government has renamed 10 govt schools after the Olympic medalist hockey team players from the state.

Chief Minister Capt Amarinder Singh approved the schools' designation after the names of hockey players from Punjab who were part of the Olympic medalist Indian Men hockey team at the Tokyo Olympics, informed Singla.

The Minister informed that the Government Senior Secondary School, Mithapur, Jalandhar has been renamed after the Hockey Team Captain Manpreet Singh and will now be known as the Olympian Manpreet Singh Government Senior Secondary School, Mithapur.

After Vice-Captain Harmanpreet Singh, the govt has renamed GSSS, Timmowal, Amritsar, and will now be known as Olympian Harmanpreet Singh GSSS, Timmowal, informed Singla. He was the top scorer (06 goals) in the Tokyo Olympics for India.

Singla added the state made a golden contribution in Indian sports. It has sent 20 sportspersons, the 2nd largest contingent after Haryana in Olympics in the nation. Remarkably, the Indian men's hockey team performed outstandingly and claimed an Olympic medal after a long wait of 41 years.
