On Sunday, Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann said Punjab would emerge as a hub of medical education for the world after inspecting the site of an upcoming medical college in the district.

The chief minister said the medical college, coming up on an area of 20 acres at the expense of Rs. 428.69 crores, will be named after Guru Nanak Dev. The design has been finalised, and work on this ambitious project will begin soon.

He said that since many students from different states will also come to this college, a hostel facility with a 300-bed hospital will also be built.

CM said the Punjab government has decided to build 16 medical colleges in the duration of five years, increasing the total number of such institutes in the state to 25.

He informed that the foundation stone of the Sant Attar Singh State Institute of Medical Sciences at Mastuana Sahib, Sangrur, had already been laid, and functions at two medical colleges at Kapurthala and Hoshiarpur will also begin soon.

Blaming the earlier or previous governments for not having paid any attention to medical education, he claimed that health, education, power, and clean water are the primary thrust areas of the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP government).
