Recently, the Tripura government has made significant changes in the regulations for government-aided schools to ensure high-quality education. On Sunday, Ratan Lal Nath, Education Minister, informed that under the amended rules, the school managing committee would form a committee like the Tripura Teachers” Recruitment Board with agreement from the director of the school education department for the recruitment movement.
He said the recruitment of teachers must, however, meet the student-teacher ratio specified for the government-aided schools.
The new service rule empowered the school authority to move teachers to nearby government-run schools based on the circumstances and needs- a provision not mentioned in the last service rule.
The service rule for government-run schools taken in 2005 has been amended after the department considered it essential to streamline the system in these schools to guarantee quality education.
Before, the managing committee of a single school used to independently organise an interview and select teachers as per the requirement.
There would be an inspection of government-run schools once in five years. If any faults are identified, the school will be given a time of two years to correct those faults. But if it fails to deliver, the particular school will be integrated with a nearby government educational institution.
He said the government is spending for these schools, and they must be responsible for delivering high-quality education. That is the reason behind bringing change in the previous service rule.
He also informed the appointment of the headmasters has also been streamlined. If a postgraduate teacher finishes seven years in service, they will be eligible to get promoted to assistant headmaster. The assistant headmaster will be permitted to get a promotion as headmaster if they complete one year of service.
Over 26,409 students are pursuing education in 43 government-run schools, and the total number of educators stands at 1426.
