Dharmendra Pradhan, Union Education Minister, has informed that the University Grants Commission has declared 24 'self-styled' institutions fake. The UGC has also found 02 more institutions which are in violation of norms and matters regarding these are pending in court, added Pradhan.
The UGC took the decision to declare the universities fake after receiving several complaints and requests from the students, parents, and through electronic media.
Pradhan, on the UGC's action against the fake universities, added that the Commission has also issued public notices against the fake institutions in national English and Hindi newspapers.
The Commission has also directed the state chief secretaries, education secretaries, and principal secretaries of the concerned regions to take action against the institutions, he added.
Uttar Pradesh has the highest, 08, fake universities, followed by Delhi having 07 fake institutions. The detailed list are mentioned below:
