On Tuesday, the Higher Education controller, University Grants Commission (UGC), lead universities to refund the entire fees to students who migrate to a different institute or withdraw their admissions on or before October 31. UGC said that December 21 is the last date to refund the fee after deducting a cancellation fee of up to Rs1,000/-.

According to the UGC refund policy of many private universities, the fee is non-refundable to the students after one month of beginning of courses. Most universities' academic sessions start in mid-August and September. From now onwards, the fee refund policy will extend to October 31 for the current academic session. In July 2022, UGC asked higher institutes to fix the undergraduate admission deadline after CBSE Class XII results. Several entrance exams, such as JEE Main, JEE Advance, CUET, etc., have been postponed, due to which admissions may continue up to October 2022.

The notice by UGC said that in the view above, and to bypass troubles faced by parents and students, UGC has decided that an entire refund of fees should be made by the higher educational institutes on account of all migrations or students and cancellations of admissions up to October 31, 2022, for the academic session 2022-2023 as a particular case.

Afterward, the entire fee collected from students will be refunded in case of cancellation or withdrawal of admission up to December 32, 2022. Colleges or universities are only allowed to deduct only Rs.1000/- as the processing fee.
