Today, the University Grants Commission (UGC) chairman Mamidala Jagadesh Kumar declared the opening of enrollment for Study Webs of Active–Learning for Young Aspiring Minds (SWAYAM) programmes/courses on Buddhist Studies.

Considering the significance of Guru Purnima, UGC has opened the registration process for the following four SWAYAM Courses on Buddhist Studies-

  • History of Indian Buddhism

  • Buddhist Philosophy

  • Abhidhamma (Pali)

  • Buddhist Tourism.

These Buddhism-related courses are delivered for free and will carry four credits each. Students are free to transfer credits according to the UGC SWAYAM regulations 2021. Each programme will be of 15 weeks and 40-hour duration.

UGC Chief also said that the registration process for the courses has already started. The academic approach for the programmes will commence from August 1 to November 14.

UGC recently started the registration for the SWAYAM course for courses for Indian Knowledge System (IKS). UGC introduced this ten-week-long course in order to sensitize students to the contributions made by ancient Indians in the domain of science, philosophy, and connected applications and ideas. IKS courses will commence on July 31, 2023.

Before introducing Massive Open Online Courses (MOOCs) on Indian Knowledge System (IKS), the University Grants Commission had published a book on IKS.
