The United Kingdom has provided relaxation to travellers from the United States and European Union countries by removing the mandatory 10-day quarantine.The relaxations, which will come into effect from Aug 02, have been provided to the travellers who are fully vaccinated.

At present, only people who are vaccinated in the UK can avoid the quarantine period while arriving from the countries which have been marked "amber list" under the traffic list travel system of the government.

However, India is still on the red list which means the Indian travellers, even if they are fully vaccinated, will have to go through a mandatory 10-day quarantine period upon reaching England.

This means that the Indian students and workers' tension and wait will continue for a longer duration. The United Kingdom is already devastated by the COVID Delta variant which was first identified in India and this can also raise difficulties regarding the change in status.

The next review under the status is expected soon.

UK Transport Secretary Grant Shapps, while announcing the new rules, informed that they have made a significant progress in their journey of reopening international travel and this step will prove to be another major step. "Whether you are a family reuniting for the first time since the start of the pandemic or a business benefiting from increased trade - this is progress we can all enjoy," he added.

He also informed that the latest scientific data will decide the further relaxations.

Last week, Indian govt urged the UK govt to remove it from the Red list. Harsh Shringla, Foreign Secretary, went to the UK on a 02-day visit to meet UK foreign officials. He informed them about the improvement in the pandemic situation across the country.
