The Cabinet Committee on Economic Affairs today has granted the approval for the continuation of the National Apprenticeship Training Scheme for the next 05 years.
The Committee also approved the stipendiary aid of Rs. 3,054 crore to apprentices who undergo training under the Ministry of Education's NATS for the duration from 2021-22 to 2025-26.
Under the scheme, approx 09 lakh apprentices will be provided training by industry and commercial organizations.
A well-established Government of India's scheme, NATS has been exhibited to improve the employability chances of students who have successfully finished the apprenticeship training.
Under 'Production Linked Incentive' (PLI), the NATS will provide apprenticeships in advancing regions such as medical devices manufacturing, mobile manufacturing, pharma sector, automobile sector, electronics/ technology products, etc. The candidates will also be prepared as skilled manpower for connectivity/ logistics industry sectors recognized under GatiShakti
The objective of the scheme is to raise the skill level standards by strengthening the skill ecosystem, which in turn, will provide employment opportunities to around 07 lakh youths in the upcoming 05 years, notified the official.
Under the scheme, the apprentices who have a Graduate and Diploma programme in Humanities, Engineering, Commerce, and Science will receive a stipend of Rs. 9,000 and Rs. 8,000 for each month, respectively.
