Subhas Sarkar, the Union Minister of State for Education has announced that free tablets will be granted to 75,000 1st-year students. The initiative will cover all first-year students of Undergraduate programmes in Jammu and Kashmir.



Under the initiative, 2000 school students belonging to several scheduled tribe communities will also be covered, informed Sarkar.



MoS Minister Sarkar announced the news while concluding his 05 days visit to the valley as part of the 'Public Outreach Programme' of the Union Govt. He also visited various educational institutions.



He added that the Higher Education Department will distribute 75,000 tablets to undergraduate students, whereas the School Education Department will distribute 2000 tablets among tribal communities' students.



Sarker further added that the Education Department will continue the work to upgrade and improve future education performance.



He also informed that vocational courses will soon be started in all colleges and Skill Development will also be introduced as a subject which will help students in better employment opportunities.



He also talked about the Prime Minister's Special Scholarship Scheme's benefits and urged each eligible candidate to reap the benefits.
