The University of Hyderabad's (UoH) three faculty members have been nominated for the GoI's (Government of India) Mega Science Programme (MSP) that aim to illustrate national vision in the area of sciences such as high energy physics, nuclear science, accelerator-based science and technology, astronomy and astrophysics, ecology and environment and climate research till 2035.
All three members are associated with the School of Physics, University of Hyderabad and have also been nominated as expert members of Mega Science Programme. These members are: Karumuri Ashok, P S Roy, and Bhawna Gomber.
P S Roy, in the wide area of ecology and environment and climate research, has been nominated for the working group on the ecology and environmental science's discipline. Roy who has been a former chair professor at the CEOAS (Centre for Ocean, Atmospheric Sciences) believes that sustainable development needs to be understood for sustaining life and its environment.
Prof Karumuri Ashok of CEOAS, School of Physics, UoH to work on drafting as well as in working group in the climate discipline's wide area. His globally-relevant climate research on the subject of tropical Indo-pacific variability and impacts has been recognised worldwide among other works such as the discovery of the ENSO Modoki, earth system modelling, seasonal prediction, monsoon variability and change.
Bhawna Gomber, assistant professor at CASEST (Centre for Advanced Studies in Electronics Science and Technology), School of Physics, UoH has been nominated in high energy physics stream. She has also been part of the existing MSP - the CMS (Compact Muon Solenoid Experiment) at the LHC, CERN from last 10 years.
