The Government of Uttar Pradesh has recently decided to open ten new Sanskrit secondary schools in order to encourage the Sanskrit language in the state and among students. As per the information, the Education Department has already determined the districts where the new schools will come up. The UP government has allotted Rs 100 crore in the state budget 2023-2024 for Sanskrit schools. The government will also distribute Rs 10 crore as a scholarship among the students studying in Sanskrit schools.
The department officials informed that the Sanskrit secondary schools would come up in Varanasi, Etah, Saharanpur, Rae Bareli, Muzaffarnagar, Shamli, Jalaun, Moradabad, Amethi, and Hardoi.
After getting in-principle permission from the state government, the directorate of school education has requested funds for constructing new schools, the report added.
The government intends to establish senior Sanskrit secondary schools in the five districts of Ayodhya, Gorakhpur, Mathura, Prayagraj, and Chitrakoot. These districts are also home to pilgrimage centres in Uttar Pradesh.
According to information, the Principal Secretary of the Education Department has also written a letter to the Collectors of five districts requesting them to identify land to construct new Sanskrit colleges.
The government’s initiatives seek to improve Sanskrit education and lure the attention of more students to study Sanskrit.
Last month, the Uttar Pradesh Secondary Education Board (UPSEB) took action against 67 schools where proxy candidates were witnessed taking high school and intermediate board examinations. About 120 impersonators were caught and arrested after an FIR was registered against them. The UPSEB has assembled a list of these schools, and lawful action has been taken against them as they have disregarded the specified requirements for recognition and committed irregularities in the conduct of examinations. The board has started the procedure of withdrawing the recognition of these schools.
