During coronavirus, Victorian International students get COVID-19 $1100 handout. Tens of thousands of international students will score an $1100 Victorian government handout to help ease the woes of coronavirus. The government envisages and requires beneficence from universities. The government hopes the package helps to ensure that international students have a good experience and choose to stay on after the pandemic resolves. Victoria generated $12.6 billion in revenue through international education in the last financial year, with most students originating from India, China, Nepal, Malaysia, and Vietnam.
International students who have lost their jobs as a result of the coronavirus pandemic will receive a one-off tax-payer funded $1,100 payments. On Wednesday, a $45million relief fund was announced by the Victorian Government which will accommodate up to 40,000 of the state's 150,000 international students. Victorian universities are providing the relief package to 'maintain Victoria's reputation as a great place for international students to come and study'.They're making significant support payments available but it's not enough and they made it very clear that one of the most important things that the Government could do to provide appropriate support for international students.
Moreover, the funding announcement comes as hundreds of Australians offered to open their homes to struggling international students. La Trobe University Vice-Chancellor Professor John Dewar agrees it is a "humanitarian step" to recognize some students' dire financial situations. Meanwhile, the rent relief program is being provided to more than 150,000 international students who are living in the state.
