On Saturday, the Central Board of Secondary Education (CBSE) announced that the CBSE would begin counselling facilities for students of classes 10 and 12 from January this year. This will be accomplished using IVRS, podcasts, and tele-counselling.

The CBSE took this decision, keeping in mind that students will be appearing for the board exams after an interval of two years.

The official release read that for the comfort and familiarization of the students, the CBSE had already made available the sample question papers, Exam pattern along with the marks distribution on the official website. However, in order to deliver psychological support and solutions to the students, the counselling, which used to begin in February earlier, will now start in January this year.

The first approach to counselling will be via IVRS. CBSE provides a free-of-cost IVRS facility 24×7 for students and parents on Board’s toll-free number- 1800-11-8004. Through this, knowledge and recommendations about stress-free preparation for examinations, time and stress management, frequently asked questions, prevention from COVID-19, necessary contact details of CBSE offices, etc., in Hindi and English, can be accessed from anywhere in the country.

Like IVRS, the Board will also offer counselling services via voluntarily tele-counselling services. This service is also free of cost service, provided by the CBSE from 9:30 am to 5:30 pm from Monday to Saturday on 1800-11-8004. This year 84 Principals and counselors are delivering this facility from India and other nations. Out of these, 73, Principals and counsellors are from India, and 11 are from Nepal, United Arab Emirates, Qatar, Japan, Kuwait, Oman, and Singapore.

The Board will also introduce bilingual podcasts on the same subjects, which will be available on the official website – cbse.gov.in.

The CBSE said in a letter that, over the years, the Board has shared many messages on social media and used platforms like YouTube, Instagram, and Facebook to engage with the students. It added that Audio-Visual content on Youth Experiences, Depression, Aggression, Internet Addiction, Exam Stress, and Multimedia content on different topics, such as substance use disorders, specific learning disabilities, and life skills to deal with them, can also be considered, and listened to.
