This week, a few updates took place associated with the Common University Entrance Test (CUET-UG) 2023. Last week, Banaras Hindu University (BHU) declared that candidates have to appear in the CUET UG to apply for admission in 2023.

Last week, the NTA also allowed CUET for NRI and OCI candidates. In the online application form of CUET UG 2023, candidates need to choose their nationality in the dropdown as either Indian, OCI, NRI, or foreign.

While last week the Aligarh Muslim University (AMU) and Jamia Millia Islamia (JMI) had disclosed that they would adopt CUET only partially, Jamia Millia Islamia now released the subject topics for which the institute will adopt the CUET UG exam.

Jamia Millia Islamia has now informed that the institute will adopt CUET only for 20 courses. The undergraduate courses in which admission would be accepted through the CUET are- BA (Hons) (Turkish Language and Literature)* (Hons) Sanskrit, BA (Hons) Korean Language, BA (Hons) French and Francophone Studies, BA (Hons) History, BA (Hons) Hindi, BA( Hons) Economics, BA (Hons) Spanish and Latin American Studies, BA (Hons) Urdu, BA (Hons) Persian, BVoc (Solar Energy), BSc Biotechnology, BSc (Hons) Physics, BSc (Hons) Chemistry, and BSc (Hons) Applied Mathematics.

The Indian Council of Agricultural Research (ICAR) has decided that entry to UG programmes in agriculture and allied sciences at agricultural universities will now be carried out via Common University Entrance Test (CUET-UG). Since the Indian Council of Agricultural Research (ICAR) has adopted CUET UG, there will be no ICAR-AIEEA (UG) for admission to UG courses this academic year.

ICAR-AIEEA (UG) was carried out for admission to undergraduate courses in agriculture and allied subjects for 20% of ICAR All India Quota seats.

The application procedure for CUET-UG started on February 9 and will end on March 12. The examinations will be conducted from May 21 to 31.

Several students appearing for CUET UG and class XII exams can have a hard time handling both exams. Despite achieving the 100 percentile in the CUET 2022, Priyanshu Dixit couldn’t reserve a seat at the college of his choice. He wanted to study BA (Hons) in Political Science at Hindu College but instead got his second preference, Kirori Mal College.

He achieved 792.48 out of 800 marks in CUET and 96% in CBSE class XII board examinations simultaneously. “For my preparation, the first thing I referred to was NCERT textbooks. I prepared a journal where I created notes of all the necessary information- dates, people, events and their contributions, and more. There was a lot of confusion about CUET UG- paper, syllabus, pattern, and no reference material available in the market or online,” he said.
