On Tuesday, Delhi Education Minister Atishi introduced the Delhi Arts Curriculum report on the innovative arts curriculum designed for students from underserved societies in Delhi.

NalandaWay Foundation developed the Delhi Arts Curriculum. According to the press statement, it has allowed students aged three to ten in order to develop specific competencies in five various art forms:

  • Visual arts

  • Music

  • Dance

  • Theatre

  • Media arts

It said in addition, the curriculum also concentrates on developing social-emotional skills.

Himanshu Gupta, Director of Education and Sports, Government of Delhi, said the Delhi Arts Curriculum, created to include arts in the education of all children in Delhi Govt schools, has derived from the proposals put along in the National Education Policy (NEP 2020). The arts curriculum was launched in specified Sarvodaya schools following training for teachers. I have noticed the students engage in Nalanda Way art lessons, exploring the world of visual art, dance, music, media arts, and theatre and tapping into the artist within.

The report- Delhi Arts Curriculum: Findings from the Pilot Study, handles the necessity for children to engage in positive and artistic adventures as a part of mainstream education. Coming at a time when learning loss is a relevant challenge, the report delivers significant results and suggestions to integrate art into the development and learning of every child. We are now shifting towards examining the following steps of intervention to assure the inclusion of arts education in all govt schools.

Founder and CEO of NalandaWay Foundation, Sriram V, said for us, arts have been a critical driver for social transformation. Three years back, when we signed the agreement with the Delhi government in order to launch an arts curriculum in government-aided schools, we used the chance to introduce visual arts, theatre, music, dance, and media arts every day for all age groups from all ages 3-13 years. At the end of the crafty academic year, we were fascinated by the outcomes for children and teachers. The Delhi arts curriculum directed children to admire art, understand art skills, and enhance socioemotional skills- an addition in student attendance, confidence, participation, and social skills was followed. For the teachers, it is directed to improve creative confidence in teaching arts.
