Delhi government has launched an initiative to provide free coaching to 15,000 students, notified State Social Welfare and Women and Child Development Minister Rajendra Pal Gautam. The coaching will be provided to students belonging to marginal and economically weaker communities.

Gautam, while briefing the initiative informed that the Delhi govt has made the Jai Bhim Mukhyamantri Pratibha Vikas Yojana for school children who aspire to become civil servants, doctors, engineers, or serve under any government jobs. Many children belong to poor and disadvantaged sections and they can't continue their education because their parents do not have enough finance to sponsor the coaching institutes' fees. This scheme has been formulated keeping these children in mind, he added.

This scheme can be availed by the children belonging to Scheduled Castes, Scheduled Tribes, and Other Backward Classes. The children whose parent's annual income is up to Rs. 08 lakh are also eligible for the scheme.

The Delhi Govt has collaborated with 46 private coaching centres to run the scheme which covers the competitive exams including UPSC CSE, CDS, Medical Entrances, Engineering Entrances, Banking Exams, Law University Entrances, and B-School Entrances, among others.

In 2018-19, under this scheme, free coaching was provided to around 5,000 SC/ST children, said the minister.

The scheme was on halt due to the COVID pandemic, but the government is planning to resume it to benefit children.
